Fourth of July Camping Trip (Lake Park on Silver Lake)

A first and a last? It depends on who you ask.  My summary of camping:  That was a lot of work.  My kids’ summary:  That was a lot of fun.  It really was a lot of fun and we had a great time, but we are not ready to run out and purchase a camper just yet! ‘DSC_0985

A boating trip with the Bleeker’s and Franken's isn’t complete if a little dancing hasn’t taken place.  Willow is doing her best “life jacket diaper dance” to “Call Me Maybe”.  She’s a classic, that one!

Another highlight of the trip was the nightly trips to the bath house to shower. Yes, believe it.  They enjoyed showering in the bath house.  Besides that camping is a lot of work, this might be reason #2 we haven’t run out to buy a camper…the dreaded bath house!  DSC_1007DSC_1006

Since we are novice campers, we were glad to have the experts along to “show us the ropes” when it came to things like getting the camper level on the camping pad, hooking up water and electricity, and the really important stuff like making a four-course breakfast.  We learned that a large part of the camping experience is the food!  We ate well, that’s for sure.

On the Fourth of July we pulled the boat over to Lake Okoboji and enjoyed the fireworks along with thousands of other people/boats.  When I saw all the boats on the lake I wondered what in the world we were thinking.  I was picturing us floating on the water yet at 3 a.m, trying to get the boat our of the water, waiting our turn for a boat ramp.  I was also very fearful of accidents and irresponsible drunk boaters.  However, Bryan and Mike had a plan, and they executed it well.  We enjoyed the beautiful display with lot of other {mostly} sober people, and had the boat out of the water less than 30 minutes after the last note of “I’m Proud To Be An American” had been sung!  It was a ton of fun and a gorgeous night as far as weather was concerned.

We also hit up the flea markets on the weekend.  It was the first time any of us had ever been to the flea markets.  The girls loved it and the boys just wanted to flee!

It was a great trip and one the kids won’t soon forget!  I guess that begs the question:  Was it the first and the last?  I guess it depends on who you ask!  DSC_1069DSC_1071

Looks like you fared a lot better than you would have in the Hibma's "love shack." GOOD JOB. Camping is horrible for parents - SO much work - but the good memories your kids will have makes it all worth it! :)
