Butterfly House

Yesterday we took a little field trip with our preschool coop to the Sertoma Butterfly House in Sioux Falls. The caravan left at 8:30, so getting the all three girls and myself out of the house on time was a stretch. It was a great reminder to not take for granted the days of pj's until 10 am.

Here's the crew, minus Dayton. Poor little guy got a fever and wasn't
able to go along. We missed you Mr. Dayton.
The two lone girls, decked out in their brightly colored shirts. Thanks Heidi for the clothing tip, it worked. We all had plenty of butterflies land on our sleeves, shoulders, and yes, even heads!

Romee was a little disturbed when hearing that the butterflies might just land on her. She was adamant that the butterflies NOT touch her. So, I was a bit worried about what she would do if one did land on her. The lady explained to us before going into the garden that it is very important to NEVER touch a butterfly. She must have been listening, because we weren't in the garden more than 2 minutes and she had one on her head. As much as she wanted to, she didn't swat, shoo, or even move when the butterfly landed on her!

I thought that Amirah would be oblivious to the butterflies, but she was quite amused by them. She would get excited when one would get close to her, and just giggle if they landed on her.

Yesterday we saw a couple of butterflies emerging from their chrysalis and drying their wings. As I was looking at this small, dull, gray, sac that these big and beautiful butterflies were emerging from it reminded of the verse from 2 Corinthians 5...

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation, the old is gone, and the new has come."

We did have a fun time - Abe was thrilled to have him finally land on his leg right before we left. Yesterday he asked again when we were going back to the "Butterfly Garden." What a special group of kids and moms and how I will miss this next year. :(
