On Sunday we celebrated Miah’s 9th birthday. In typical Miah fashion, she dreamt up a creative and fun theme and setting for her 9th birthday party.
Last month when visiting the county fair, we went through some of the buildings in the Heritage Village. We stopped by the old Doc’s Café, where they were serving Root beer floats from the bar. She had decided way back in May that she wanted to have a 50’s diner theme party. The napkins and plates had already been purchased. When we were leaving the café that day she said, “Mom, that would be a fun place to have my birthday party.” Later that night she mentioned it again. This time she asked if I could check into it. I told her that I would. With one phone call and a donation to the Heritage Village, we had Miah’s 9th birthday party location!
The dinner special for the day was: Pulled Pork, Mashed Potatoes and Gravy, Corn, Fruit Salad, Tossed Salad and a Roll.
Miah’s request for dessert was Grandma Vic’s famous root beer whips. My mom made them for my kids several years ago and they have not had a root beer float since. She whips the root beer and ice cream so it is like a shake. So yummy! Miah doesn’t care for cake, so instead we served mini cheesecakes with the whips.
The hula hoop contest! Do you want to know who won? I will give you a hint: It is the person who looks like they are doing it effortlessly. Yup, it was the birthday girl. We had her hula hooping while balancing objects on her head, walking forward, backward, up stairs, down stairs. We finally made her stop and declared her the Hula Hoop Champion 2011!
It was a beautiful day to celebrate a beautiful little girl! You are tender-hearted, intuitive, nurturing, independent, helpful, creative and just plain fun to have around. You have a wonderful sense of humor and see the humor in things a lot of kids your age miss. When you talk we listen, because you don’t talk unless you feel it is important for it to be said. You remind me of someone else I know. He just happens to be your namesake. You are a gift and a treasure, Miah Brynn! I love you.
