This is an exciting time for this Cyclone family. Not only are we celebrating the football win on Saturday that made us bowl eligible, but we are also keeping our eye on a young, but talented basketball team and following a volleyball team who is dominating conference play. In fact, this week they moved up in the rankings again and are now ranked #18 in the nation. The year that we purchased our season tickets for football, we talked about trying to make it to a volleyball game on a Saturday when both teams played at home. That never happened. Every year since, we have the same conversation. With a house full of girls who all love the game of volleyball, we decided it was time to try and make it work.
We left the house at 7:00 AM so that we could drop the boys off at the stadium in time to see the 11:00 kick-off. After dropping them off, the girls and I headed over to the mall to do a little shopping. We bought a birthday gift for Emily and spent $5 dollars at Claire’s. We left the store with 2 headbands, several pairs of earrings, and too many lip glosses. Gotta love the clearance racks. We then headed over to the “cheap” theater and all five of us watched the movie Brave for $5…total! You can’t see a movie without theater butter popcorn, so when it was all said and done we spent a grand total of $13…at a movie theater…you know, the place that used to be considered great family fun, but now quickly and quietly sucks every last dollar bill out of your wallet. As we were leaving the theater, Bryan called that the game was over and they were ready to be picked up. While I had him on the phone, I had to boast about my bargain-kind-of-day. Wouldn’t you know it, he was scoring quite a deal himself. He should know better than to “one up” this self proclaimed cheap-skate. How dare he! He told me he was walking over to the box office to purchase our tickets for the volleyball game. If you bring your football tickets to the box office, you could purchase volleyball tickets for $2 a ticket. We knew several people who were at the game, so what does every good cheap-skate’s husband do? Call them up and ask for their ticket, of course. He rounded up 7 football tickets and purchased all of our volleyball tickets for a grand total of $14 dollars. Oh, I was so proud of him. Before heading to the game, we grabbed a Little Caesars $5 large pizza….JUST KIDDING…we ate at Hickory Park. This is the part in the story where the great deals end. But really, is there any other place to eat in Ames? We all ordered what we always order and ate ‘till our tummies were full. We then headed over to Hilton with great anticipation. The girls were so excited! ![]()
The game did not disappoint. It is all open seating, and we arrived plenty early to sit close to the court. It was so much fun to really good, fast paced volleyball. There was only one little girl who was not impressed with the game.
It was a really long day for Cae, Cae. She was such a tropper, but the last set got the best of her. ISU beat Texas Tech in three which was very nice for this cheering section who had to drive home yet. We were back on the road by 7:30 PM and home snug in our beds by 11:00. We suffered for the late night the next day, but we all agreed it was worth it.
