Last week we got the opportunity to join Romee in her first grade classroom to celebrate her special day. She was the “star” all week, but Wednesday was her VIP share time and her poster share time. I find it so interesting that even in something like “Star of the Week” my kids’ personalities shine through. While helping Romee with her poster, I was remembering back with the older kids. Cade was happy we were all there, but didn’t even remember to tell us about “Star of the Week” until the day the poster came home. Miah enjoyed doing the poster at home, but wanted as few guests as possible to come for her share time. I remember asking Willow who she all wanted to be there, and she said that whoever could make it would be fine. Romee has been planning and preparing for weeks. She requested that everyone be there. She knew exactly what she was going to take to show as her special things, and thoroughly enjoyed being in the spotlight on Wednesday. As much as she really wanted all of her family to be there, it just wasn’t possible for Cade to come. Miah gave Romee a hard time about all the homework she was going to have because of her…she missed math to be there. We all know Miah wouldn’t have missed it, knowing how much it meant to Romee. She also knows that Romee would have given her the guilt trip for years to come. She still reminds Cade that he never once came and watched her in gymnastics.:) We ate lunch with her after her share time, and had a fun morning celebrating a special little girl. With all of my other kids, I wrote a little poem, or note to share with their class about what makes them special to our family and then make or buy a little treat to go along with it. This is the note I wrote for Romee:
Today you are you, that is truer than true, there is no one alive who is youer than you. ~ Dr. Suess
Romee, We would have to agree with Dr. Suess, that is no one else like you. You are one-of-a-kind. You are unique and special in your very own way. There is no one else with eyes that sparkle green one day and blueish gray the next. There is no one else that has your sweet little smile. There is no one else that can cheer up your family and friends with a kind word like you can do. The thing that we think makes you the most “youer than you” is the way your freckles are perfectly sprinkled over you nose and your cheeks. We love your freckles and we love you Romee Noelle.
We ended the time with her class drinking a glass of our favorite Red Robin drink, “Freckled Lemonade”.
