Big Sand: end of week one

As we waved goodbye to aunts and uncles, cousins, and Grandpa and Grandma early this morning we were sad to say goodbye, but grateful and thankful for a week filled with fun and memories.  All but cabin #9 sat empty for about 4 hours this morning, and then slowly but surely they began filling up again.  Many with the people and faces we love.  We are excited to begin another week with the Bleekers, but before we do I will leave you with some final pictures from our last two days.

We were able to catch enough fish for a Friday afternoon fish fry.  In Cades words, “There is nothing better than eating fresh fish at the lake.”  I would have to agree.  Most of us made them into fish tacos which were absolutely delicious.  My grandma however thought it was, “Such a pity.”  She was sure that if my Grandpa Hank were here, he wouldn’t have allowed it.  Needless to say, Grandma Great ate hers without the tortilla shell.

So, so many hours spent in the sand and water!

This little girl hasn’t attempted skiing for two years.  She decided two years ago, after struggling to get up, that skiing was not for her.  Several times each summer we try and convince her to try again.  Knowing how stubborn she is, we decided that we were done trying and this summer we would not mention it again.  Sure enough, Friday afternoon she came walking down to the beach with her life jacket on and said to Amanda, “Ten tries.  That’s it.” Bryan and I both looked at each other, both wondering who had talked to her.  We just shook our heads when we discovered she decided this completely on her own.  After her third try she was already SO close.  With each try, she got closer.  This was probably her best attempt.  She got into the boat with a smile on her face and determination to master it next week.  I so hope she does!

This is my family.  These are the people I love.  The people who talk and laugh so loud (and hard) that you can hear them all the way across the resort.  The people who played 45 hands of 500 and who complained about every hand.  The people who play games to win and hope to have a fun doing it.  We had so much fun this week and I am so proud to call this crazy crew my family!  Love you all.
