Each year the SCCS choses a theme to focus on throughout the entire school year. This year the theme was “Ordinary People Extraordinary God”. I was so excited when I heard that this was going to be the theme for the year. So too often, when you read bible story books for kids, the focus of the story is on people of each story. The story highlights David’s strength and bravery in killing the giant, or Mary’s faith and trust in caring the Son of God, or Paul’s persistence and dedication in continuing to bring the gospel to the churches. The stories fail to mention how God is really the main character of every story in the bible. This theme allowed the kids to see that we, along with David, Paul, Mary, and many others are just ordinary people serving an extraordinary God!
